FAQ
WHAT IS CEREMONIAL GRADE MATCHA?
Ceremonial grade matcha is the highest quality of matcha tea, made from the youngest, shade-grown tea leaves of the first harvest of the year. Known for its vibrant green colour, fine texture, and smooth sweet flavour with minimal bitterness, it is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and contains higher levels of L-theanine and catechins compared to other grades of matcha.
This matcha is prized for its superior taste, texture, and nutritional benefits, making it the preferred choice for matcha enthusiasts.
HOW IS MATCHA CAFFINE DIFFERENT TO COFFEE?
In the world of caffeine, matcha stands apart with its unique composition. Our matcha boasts 68 mg of caffeine per cup, the perfect little kick compared to the 90-130 mg typically found in a cup of coffee. What makes matcha truly special is its rich content of L-theanine, which not only slows caffeine absorption but also fosters laser-sharp focus and a serene sense of calm. Leading to a more sustained and steady release of energy over several hours, while coffee tends to give a quicker, more intense energy boost resulting in that notorious coffee crash, and a common case of the dreaded jitters!

SHOULD I USE MILK OR WATER WITH MY MATCHA?
When we're aiming for the ultimate health boost from matcha, we tend to lean towards water or dairy-free options like oat milk, coconut milk, or almond milk instead of regular milk. Water and dairy-free milks let us fully soak up all those antioxidants and nutrients while dairy milk proteins, particularly casein, may bind to the antioxidants in matcha, reducing their absorption in our bodies. Dairy-free milks can still bring the creamy vibes without overshadowing matcha's natural sass. Water, on the other hand, lets us savour matcha's full flavour profile. For those of us with lactose intolerance or dairy allergies, water is a safer choice. Ultimately, it's about personal preference—if you love matcha with milk, go for it!
For maximising the antioxidant and health benefits, consuming matcha with water is generally our go to!
WHAT IS EGCG?
EGCG, or epigallocatechin gallate, is a type of catechin and a powerful antioxidant predominantly found in green tea but extremely abundant in matcha. It's particularly special because of its numerous health benefits.
Antioxidant Power: EGCG is one of the most potent antioxidants known, helping to combat oxidative stress and free radicals that can damage cells and lead to various diseases.
Cancer Prevention: Studies suggest that EGCG may help in preventing the growth of cancer cells and reducing the risk of certain cancers, including breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers.
Heart Health: EGCG has been shown to lower LDL cholesterol levels (the "bad" cholesterol) and improve blood flow, thereby supporting cardiovascular health.
Weight Management: It may aid in weight loss by boosting metabolism and fat oxidation, helping to burn calories more efficiently.
Brain Function: EGCG can cross the blood-brain barrier and has been linked to improved cognitive function, memory enhancement, and protection against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.
Anti-Inflammatory Properties: It exhibits anti-inflammatory effects, which can help reduce inflammation in the body and support overall health.
In matcha, the concentration of EGCG is higher compared to other types of green tea because of its cultivation, harvesting, and preparation methods. This makes matcha a particularly potent source of this beneficial antioxidant, contributing to its reputation as a health-promoting beverage.
HOW IS MATCHA MADE?
Here at satori we like to do things differently and get hands on with our products! We’ve had the joy of personally visiting our matcha farms and amazing farmers in Uji, Japan. Let me take you on a whimsical journey of how our matcha is crafted:
Shading: Picture this—our tea plants basking under their cozy shade tents for three weeks before harvest. This isn't just any shading; it's like giving them a mini spa treatment, boosting their chlorophyll levels to give our matcha that envy-worthy vibrant green hue and superb flavour.
Picking: Our matcha is only harvested once a year ensuring we get the creme de la creme! Our skilled farmers delicately pluck only the finest, youngest leaves during the first flush of spring, each leaf is bursting with sweetness and quality.
Processing: immediately after harvest, these tender leaves are gently steamed to prevent oxidation, lock in their freshness and that lush green colour we adore. The steamed leaves are dried and then stripped of stems and veins, leaving behind only the leafy parts known as "tencha."
Grind Time: Ah, the heart of the operation! I've stood in awe at our grinding factory, where traditional granite stone mills work their magic. It's a mesmerising sight as the tencha leaves transform into silky-smooth matcha powder. This process can take up to an hour to produce just 30 grams of matcha powder, ensuring a smooth texture and preserving its nutrient content.
Sealed with Love: Once ground, our matcha powder is carefully packed in air-tight containers, locking in all those wonderful nutrients and flavours until they reach your cup.
Every sip of our Satori ceremonial grade matcha is a testament to this craft and dedication. From farm to factory to finding you! It's a journey filled with care and passion, ensuring you get the finest matcha experience possible.
